All Star players will be announced at a special ceremony.  Time and date TBD.

The Selection Process

RCWLL Board administrates the selection process.

Each of Three Groups Vote.

1) Players, 2) Managers, and 3) Coaches are given an opportunity to vote for the best players (the top 13 (typically) are elected to the team) from all eligible players in each division.

The Counting Committee (Board selected) lists the top players from each group (players, managers, and coaches).

Each player listed as a candidate on a group's list will be given one vote (thus a maximum of 3 votes). Top vote winners are elected.

Managers for the All-Star teams are selected by the Board of Directors basis regular season play.

The RCWLL teams are comprised of the most talented and character-worthy players.  The selection process is as fair and manageable as possible.  No single manager, board member or coach specifies any of the selected players.

Parental and Player Obligations are listed below for your review before you accept a roster spot on the All-Star Team.  Please review and understand your obligations.

Character Counts

Many parents feel that only playing ability and parental heritage drive the All Star selection process. However, from the League's manager's and coach's perspective this statement is not accurate. The selection process involves three aspects of each player:

  • Baseball ability
  • Character of the player
  • Character of the parents

Yes, even your character as a parent/guardian has a part in the selection process.

The Managers and Coaches votes include consideration of the character attributes of players and families. Little League Baseball attempts to make a positive contribution to each community. Therefore, we try to emphasize and encourage good character among all participants.  Families are encouraged to practice the Parent/Volunteer Little League Pledge.  We strive to reward good behavior and baseball ability.

All Star Parental and Player Obligations

Participation on a post-season team involves a considerable commitment on the part of every player and parent. Many post-season teams will practice several times each week in the weeks leading up to the games.

For the most part, the following list describes the requirements of post-season play:

  • Mid-June to Late July is the Playing Season - Players are expected to be available during this period. A short absence, such as one or two days, can be tolerated. If the player will be out of town for longer periods, we advise against participating in the tournament season.
  • Five / Six Nights per Week - Players practice, play scrimmages. It is a demanding schedule, as each event may last a few hours.
  • Tournament Travel - The tournament season involves nightly travel to area parks across East Texas. Depending on the success of each team, two to seven nights may be on the road.
  • Fees:  Uniforms are purchased by the All Star Parents.  RCWLL will collect a fee to cover costs of uniforms.  The uniform is the players to keep.  Tournament travel costs are the responsibility of the players families and can be substantial as the team has success and progresses toward the LL World Series.
  • Player/Parental Conduct:  It should be understood that the tournament season puts some players in adverse situations. Some players will take a lesser role on the team. They will have to sit on the bench at times and play unwanted/unfamiliar positions. If your player is put in this situation, please use the opportunity to teach and allow for player growth.  In casting their votes both Managers and Coaches try to anticipate how players will act under such situations.

Coaches' Sons

"I don't like it! The coaches' sons always get selected!" is heard at tournament time. To some degree, the statement is true. Please understand why.

It is often the case that parents with talented children want to coach their child's team.  These same coaches/parents spend a lot of time playing ball with their sons/daughters and developing their talent.  These coach/parents tend to understand the game of baseball and can provide quality instruction. Consequently, tournament teams often include the talented children of our coaches.

Finally, many coaches are very competitive. They want to win - especially at tournament time! The All-Star team coaches will vote to maximize the talent on their respective teams. Therefore, all talented players in each division are given consideration throughout the selection process.

Good Luck to all those chosen to carry the RCWLL Banner in Post Season Play
