nNEW "LEAGUE AGE" RULES ANNOUNCED FOR 2006 SEASON

In May 2005, the Little League International Board of Directors, accepted a recommendation of the United States Amateur Baseball Federation to change the "League Age Determination" date for its players from the previous date of July 31st to a new date of April 30th.   RCWLL, which operates under Little League Rules and Regulations will comply with the new league determination date.

Reason for Change

USA Baseball, which Little League is a member of, made the changes so more players would be playing baseball at their chronological age during a season.  For example, under the previous "league date" a player who turns 13 in May, June, or July, would have been considered league age of 13 and required to play the next division up.  Despite the fact that such player would likely have played most if not all of the regular season (which typically ends in June) without having actually reached his or her 13th birthday.  Under the new "LEAGUE AGE DETERMINATION" such player will have a league age of 12 throughout the 2006 season.  For detail reading on the ruling, and various questions and answers pertaining to this change please click here.

Important Rules regarding Change

In-coming T-ball players who turns 5 in May, June, or July of 2006 will be, for one year only, permitted to play in the 2006 Tee Ball Season.  They will also be permitted to move up to 5-pitch if they have completed a year of Tee Ball.

Waiver to "move up".  Any player who's birthday falls in May, June, or July, may "move up" to continue playing with his/her group by indicating their intentions during registration.  For example, a player of  league-age 9 in 2005, would be considered league-age 9 again in 2006 because of the "League Age Determination".  Player will be required to declare their intentions to "move up".   A "check box" will be available on the registration form.  BUT,  If you elect to move up you will not be eligible to play all-stars at that league age level cutoff.

In the Major Division, for one (1) year only (2006 season), teams will be allowed to have more than eight (8) "league age 12 year olds".  After that, the number of eight (8) players will again apply.
